Drostanolone was first described in 1959; it was developed by Syntex and launched over a decade later, in 1970, under the trade name Masteron.

Drostanolone is an injectable anabolic steroid, a derivative of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is described in the medical literature as a powerful anabolic with anti-estrogenic properties. The FDA approved drostanolone to treat inoperable breast cancer in menopausal women, as was the case in many other parts of the world.

From a biological point of view, Masteron works like DHT because it is a derivative of the latter. Without a doubt, the effects of Masteron will be shown in the most efficient way during a cutting cycle. However, the individual must be extremely slim so that the effects can really be estimated. Drostanolone does not cause water retention and has a moderate diuretic effect, similar to stanozolol; this enables an improvement in muscle density, relief and definition. The best muscle condition can be achieved with drostanolone; this is possible primarily thanks to the lipolytic effect of the compound. Masteron does not aromatize and is not estrogenic; in fact, it shows anti-estrogenic properties in the body and binds to aromatase instead of other substrates. In summary, drostanolone works very much like stanozolol, but it has no side effects typical of Winstrol, namely, it does not increase tendon brittleness, does not dry out the synovial fluid and does not have such a negative effect on blood cholesterol levels as stanozololol does.
